Overview

Chen Frontier Labs are unique interdisciplinary R&D laboratories that form a central component of the philanthropic activities within the Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute. Each Frontier Lab operates with a distinct topical focus, but they are united by a vision to improve humanity by solving important problems of the brain and mind. Chen Frontier Labs also interact with and support other TCCI programs to build communities, hold conferences, and interact with the media.

Problems Solved By Frontier Labs

Each Frontier lab represents a systematic effort to produce innovative solutions to problems that have the following characteristics:

  • Impact: They greatly affect a large number of people
  • Novelty: Their solution cannot readily be derived using conventional methods
  • Feasibility: It is realistic to generate new and impactful solutions within 3-5 years
  • Synergies: TCCI already has some important resources in the domain

A Unique Approach

Our approach is uniquely horizontal: identifying, validating, and incubating neuroscience research to translate ideas into products that improve people’s health or provide other important benefits.

From Insight to Incubation

Insight
Identify
promising technologies or protocols that have a chance of being translated into successful commercial endeavors that reach large audiences.
Validate
these technologies or protocols by testing and optimizing their ability to provide value and to ensure their suitability for widespread application.
Incubating
these validated technologies or protocols in our technology incubator so they may continue to flourish and grow.
