Chen Investigators

Tianqiao & Chrissy Chen Investigators are accomplished academic experts who help to advance the Chen Frontier Labs’ exciting mission by contributing their leadership and expertise during a one-year sabbatical from their home institution. These experts, chosen by an international selection committee, are successful mid-career engineers or scientists (typically at the Associate Professor level) who have substantial technical expertise related to the Chen Frontier Lab’s core areas of focus.

Chen Investigators will oversee and participate in validation efforts that can lead to commercial incubation. While they may write academic papers about these validation efforts, their explicit goal is the technical and/or clinical validation of their ideas prior to potential commercialization.

Chen Investigators are interested in bringing neurotechnologies to the clinical realm or general public, and being a Chen Investigator allows them to follow their interest without the constraints and red tape often associated with typical university settings or funding mechanisms. Chen Investigators also benefit from the Chen Institute’s growing reputation and network of scientists, engineers, clinicians, industry, and venture capital contacts.

Chen Investigators will receive a competitive compensation package including free housing for the duration of their stay, a generous travel allowance, and the equipment, personnel, and contacts necessary for them to succeed. They will lead their project for the duration of their stay and will be senior author on academic articles related to their work.
