The 2023 ranking of the world’s top scientists was recently released by Research.com, one of the world’s leading academic research portals. The ranking was based on their D-index, the proportion of contributions within a given research area, and the awards and achievements of the researchers. The second edition of the ranking since the revamp of Research.com is based on data derived from various sources including OpenAlex and CrossRef. The bibliometric data for devising the citation-based metrics were acquired on 21-12-2022.

For the area of Neuroscience, over 27,400 scientists were considered, including 107 scholars working for related organizations, institutes, or institutions in China. Amongst them are three TCCI scholars including Professor Gerwin Schalk, the Director of the Chen Frontier Lab for Applied Neurotechnology, who ranked 23rd; Professor Dezhong Yao from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, who ranked 24th; and Professor Zhi-Li Huang from Fudan University, who ranked 59th.
