Professor Tao Hu

Affiliated Tianqiao and Chrissy Chen Institute Investigator

Professor, Shanghai Institute of Microsystems and Information Technology (SIMIT), Chinese Academy of Sciences; Founding Director, 2020 X-Lab, SIMIT; Deputy Director, State Key Laboratory of Transducer Technology

Professor Tao focuses his work on brain-computer interfaces (BCI), bio-storage, and micro-nano Sensors. He believes that compared with other creatures on the planet, our brain is the most advanced part of the human body. To him, the brain-computer interface is a perfect fusion of life sciences and IT, representing a new and potentially revolutionary field which allows us to bypass the body own organs and control external devices with our brains. For patients, the BCI can restore their independent living and communication abilities and help them to return to the society. For healthy people, the BCI can endow them with “X-powers” such as exceptional execution speed, precision and efficiency.
